The Great Depression

Most people in the United States were unhappy. Why? Because of the Great Depression. To fully understand the depression we have to go back ten years. Back then the US seemed like paradise people had cars, went to parties, had big houses, and were pretty well off. That was before Black Tuesday. Black Tuesday sent most people into debt or made them broke. To make things worse the weather went fowl. The weather brought droughts and killed all of the crops ruining the years harvest. Huge dust storms rushed throughout the Great Plains.

The prairies became known as the Dust Bowl. People living in the Dust Bowl area moved from their homes to California and the surrounding states. Thankfully, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover helped the US recover after the crash. Franklin D Roosevelt created organizations such as the CCC, WPA, and the AAA to help millions of hungry Americans get food and work.

Black Tuesday

In the United States things were improving after WW1. That is until Black Tuesday.

In 1920 hundreds of people were buying stock. Some people even borrowed money to buy stock because they thought they could pay it back and have money left over (Not a good idea.)

Black Tuesday

Turned out they were wrong. Starting in 1929 a few people started selling there stock, then a few more people started selling. After a while hundreds and hundreds of people were selling their stock. Stock value plummeted almost to zero. The whole week was called the Wall Street Crash. Tuesday was the worst day in that week. $4,000,000 worth of stock was lost. Eventually this crash led to the Great Depression. This was a dark age for America.
